7 Ways to Stay Injury-Free Over the Holidays
Ah, the holidays – a time for joy, cheer, and occasionally, a slip, trip, or strain that lands us at the physio’s office.
But fear not!
We’ve got your back (literally). Here are seven fabulous ways to sleigh (yes, pun intended) through the season without any unplanned visits to us:
1. Limber Up Before You Leap
Don’t go from zero to ten in 2.5 seconds! Warm up those muscles before you dive into holiday activities. Quick stretches, a brisk walk, or a little dance to your favorite festive tune can do wonders.
2. Pace Yourself, Rudolph
You’re not in a sprint; it’s more of a merry marathon. Spread out the holiday decorating, shopping, and baking. Take breaks and listen to your body.
3. Snow Shenanigans
If you’re travelling to colder and icy climates, ditch the fashionable shoes and wear proper footwear with a good grip.
4. Party-Hopping Prep
The temptation to twist and shout on the dance floor is real, but so is the risk of injury. Wear sensible shoes, stay hydrated, and don’t be afraid to take a breather between those killer moves.
5. Treat Those Bags of Gifts like Weights at the Gym and Lift Safely
When lugging those hefty gift bags or your suitcases that you’ve filled to the brim, bend your knees, engage your core or ask for help if you know you need it. Even Santa has little helpers.
6. Trying Skating or other New Activities? – Glide with Pride
If you’re trying a new physical activity, make sure you wear the recommended safety gear. Don’t let your pride send you home with a concussion.
7. Post-Festive TLC
If you’ve overdone it on the holiday shenanigans and find yourself twinging in discomfort, don’t ignore it! Seek help from the pros (ahem, us) to ensure those niggles don’t turn into full-blown holiday spoilers.
Remember, the best gift you can give yourself is a happy, healthy holiday season. Take care, be safe, and let’s keep the Ho-Ho-Ho in holiday!
Happy festivities and injury-free celebrations!
